Ellie Does Ellen

I've been meaning to write this post for some time now, but just now seem to be getting around to it. A few weeks ago, back in April, my idol and absolute favorite musician on the face of the Earth, Ellie Goulding played the Ellen show. After having played Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Regis & Kelly, and not to mention Saturday Night Live, this was not my gal's first trip to the Stateside rodeo. That being said, Ellie gave an absolutely brilliant performance of her debut US single "Lights" off the album of the same name, and it blew everyone away, including Miss DeGeneres herself!

Surrounded by a series of futuristic glowing lights and backed by not only her band but a talented string section, Ellie et al. offered up a fantastic live version of the track. Absent from the studio version is Ellie's drum playing, which believe me when I say, it is absolutely incredible in person. Ellie gave a true star-level performance on Ellen, with it being her first US live show since Letterman back in January.

What I really have to comment on is the incredible rise to fame Ellie Goulding has seen over the past few years. After releasing "Under The Sheets" back in September of 2009 and going on to win the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, she released her debut Lights in March of 2010. Since then, Ellie has gone from a struggling songstress to a true star in the States and the UK. When I first heard her CD back in the Summer of 2010 (and met her at Lovebox that same summer), I knew that there was something in her that would launch her to the success she deserved.

Now, just over two years later, she has made her US debut, a true challenge for any up-and-coming British artist (see: Girls Aloud, The Saturdays, etc.). She has hit the American ground running, opening for Katy Perry and sampling for artists such as Mika and Skrillex, and only more great things are in her future.

I am so truly thankful for the music she has given me and having the opportunity to watch her grow as a musician and star is much more rewarding than I ever could have thought. I can't wait for her second studio album to be released later this year, as I know it will be just as fantastic, if not better, than Lights.

In the meantime, if you've made it through my mumbled musings, take a look at the sensational performance Ellie Goulding gave on Ellen:
